Lawrence, KS - Starfire HQ - Starfire Technologies was selected by IBM to create the Tivoli Storage Manager 6.1(TSM) certification exam that will be taken by TSM administrators throughout the world. Tapping Starfire to craft the certification exam is a recognition of Starfire's capabilities and leadership within the TSM community. The TSM 6.1 release incorporates some major changes to the product including a back-end database shift to DB2 and the incorporation of a data deduplication engine. "We wanted the new exam to be a break from past exams," said Senior Enterprise Architect Richard Spurlock. "This new exam asks questions that are central to running a TSM environment and we are confident that anyone who passes this exam is truly capable of installing and administering the product." Starfire has been working with the TSM product since the mid-1990's when it was known as ADSM. IBM's choice of Starfire to create the questions that are used in the TSM exam reflects the fact that Starfire's Systems Architects have mastered the product to the point that they can meet any challenge in a TSM environment. Systems Engineer Jimmy Kost points out that Starfire has developed best practices and methodologies that can be applied to basic single-instance environments or the most complicated multi-instance environments that can be conceived. "The size and complexity of an environment is not an issue for us. Our best practices and methodologies extend beyond TSM and take into account the entire storage architecture and infrastructure. We regularly scale environments to manage a few terabytes or multiple petabytes of information and clearly demonstrate that those environments can be restored within the required recovery window."
