| Woodchip Car (AAR) Extended Service Status Analysis
Starfire was engaged to perform an AAR Extended Service Status analysis and modification package on a single lot of wood chip cars owned by a Midwestern leasing firm. The cars were constructed in 1971, and were originally equipped with an obsolete empty-load brake system. Starfire was engaged to travel to the cars to measure and sketch critical components and dimensions, as few drawings were available to document original construction. The brake system was modified to a conventional single-capacity system, and the necessary reinforcements to the carbody and underframe were determined by analysis and appropriate drawings were developed. |
