Starfire was contracted to provide the analysis and subsequent material reinforcements necessary to increase the capacity of three series of rapid discharge aluminum (1 series) and steel (2 series) coal cars. The cars were analyzed using both classical and finite element methods to determine their ability to withstand increased loadings (from 263,000lb GRL to 286,000lb GRL) and to meet current AAR Specification M1001.
