This project required the design of modifications necessary to remove an amount of the side and end structure of a series of 4,000 cubic foot, 100 ton gondolas used in coal service to result in a 100 ton high side gondola with a cubic capacity of 2,800 cubic feet. As modified , the internal bracing was removed, as the cars were no longer intended to be unloaded by dumping to the side. The air brake system was modified to incorporate empty-load braking.
