Starfire regularly provides analysis and design support to a wide range of rail industry clients including Class 1, regional and short line railroads, new freight car manufacturers, transit vehicle manufacturers, freight car repair shops, private passenger car owners, tourist and excursion railways, rail car leasing firms, industry legal departments and other rail industry consulting/engineering firms.

Due to an increase in the number, size and scope of projects, Starfire is currently seeking Engineers to join our staff at our Lawrence, Kansas office.

The Engineer will be responsible for learning about the development and production of stress analyses and the design of new rail equipment and/or structural modifications to railroad equipment as a result of the analytical results.

A Bachelor's degree in either Civil or Mechanical Engineering is required. FEA experience is required.

Our office is located in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the University of Kansas and the fabulous Jayhawk's basketball team! Lawrence prides itself as a welcoming city with a focus on the University and appreciation for the arts. Lawrence has a unique "downtown" with quaint shops, but also trendy establishments such as Starbuck's Coffee and The Gap. Lawrence restaurants range from simple hamburger shops to elegant eateries. Housing in the area ranges from starter homes to million dollar mansions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

DESIGN ENGINEER REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering or Senior Project Engineer

LOCATION: Corporate Office in Lawrence, Kansas SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION: Provides engineering support to Director of Engineering or Senior Project Engineer, which includes, but is not limited to, production of basic stress analysis reports, preliminary design of structural modifications to railroad equipment, and generation of simple graphs, sketches, drawings, and supporting documents.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Generation of basic stress analysis reports using FEA.

2. Generation of simple graphs, sketches, drawings, and supporting documents to clarify and support stress analysis reports.

3. Provide efforts in engineering design and analysis as required and directed to accomplish Engineering Department goals and project needs.

4. As time and project loads permit, learn and assist with the development of new and additional computerized analysis routines and documents to enhance SET's analytical capabilities.

5. Make ongoing contacts with customers, vendors, suppliers, and others as directed to accomplish project requirements, and to promote additional business for the company.

6. Development and preparation of Engineering Standards. Assist with the development of CAD Standards.

7. Development and pursuit of rail and non-rail projects, enabling the company to diversify, and expand its field of service and operations.

8. Perform additional engineering and non-engineering duties, as specified by supervisor.

9. Be willing to take on new projects and ready to invest time and energy to meet challenges head on.

10. Be willing to learn new techniques, etc., and to implement new knowledge.

11. Answer telephones, take messages when receptionist is unavailable.

12. Provide input into needed equipment, office furniture.

13. Comply with requirements regarding arrival time at the office, dress code, deportment, meeting deadlines, and assignments.

14. Stay apprised of the contents of the SET Employee Handbook, and comply with the SET Employee Handbook.

SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibility.

ACCOUNTABILITY: No budget responsibility.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: As needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science in Engineering. FEA experience.

Must be able to legally work within the United States and have a valid passport to travel outside of the United States.
