Founded in January of 1981 and based in Lawrence, Kansas, USA, STARFIRE's Engineering Division has forged a reputation as a reliable and effective resource for our transportation client's rail equipment design and engineering needs.

Independently, and in conjunction with other firms, Starfire has developed new designs of various railcars for a number of railcar manufacturers and private fleet owners, both large and small. These include designs for a stand-alone wellcar, an aluminum coal car, several straight deck and heavy duty depressed center flat cars, a CO2 refrigerated box car, a rotary dump ore car, a mechanical refrigerated boxcar, and most recently another heavy duty straight deck flat car. Our engineering expertise extends to most types of railcars, freight locomotives and transit/passenger vehicles, as well as shop machinery, equipment, components and track layout design.

Starfire's customers include Class One railroads, regional Class Two railroads, short line railroads, passenger/transit car manufacturers and rebuilders, new railcar manufacturers, locomotive manufacturers and remanufacturers, various private car owners, railcar leasing firms, railway supply companies and car shops, both within the United States and abroad.
